Will Actos Bladder Cancer Lawsuits Provide Just Compensation for Those with Cancer?

Actos is a Type 2 diabetes drug that has been linked to bladder cancer in a number of medical studies. The linkage has been strong enough for the drug to be suspended from the market in France and Germany, but there has just been an FDA Actos cancer warning in the United States. The maker of Actos is conducting a multi-year safety study; the interim results prompted the FDA’s initial safety notice regarding Actos and the increased risk of bladder cancer. That notice warned of increased bladder cancer risk after taking Actos for two or more years. The updated FDA Actos bladder cancer warning told Actos users their risk of bladder cancer coud increase after using the drug for just one year. What followed was recognition that the bladder cancer in current and former Actos users, as well as former Actos users who had died of bladder cancer, could well have originated with their use of Actos. In many cases these people are filing Actos bladder cancer lawsuits. Some of these lawsuits are discovering that the maker may have been aware of higher bladder cancer risks after using Actos. As these Actos bladder cancer lawsuits progress and other lawsuits are filed, more information will undoubtedly be uncovered. In almost every case where a drug has been found to be dangerous, the company that produced and marketed the drug always knew about the dangers well before the public and patients using the drug. Will that be the case with Actos bladder cancer?
